TOP WINTER COLOUR TRENDS TO TRY

Classic Ombre Tones

Ombre hair colour is darker at the roots and gradually fades into a lighter shade through the mid-lengths to the ends.

“Partial ombre – this technique can be partially worked throughout the hair to accessorise particular areas of the haircut.”

– Jack Morton, National Technical Director

Babylights Colour Mash Up

Throwback to carefree days and sun soaked hair, ‘babylights’ is the subtle brunette-blonde mash-up that seeks to mimic the natural lightening caused by sun exposure, using smaller sections of hair for layers of contrast and more subtle colour meshing.

“Work some babylights around the hairline and parting, to blend your regrowth between major colour services for an interim maintenance regime.”

– Jack Morton, National Technical Director

Balayage For A Soft And Natural Feel

The term that has crushed social media hashtags, Balayage is the application of freehand colour which creates a soft natural finish.

“Balayage is no passing trend and is now the new normal! The technique can really be adapted to any hair styles for varying results. Popular both for its versatility and low maintenance appeal.”

The Bronde Fusion

Having trouble deciding between going blonde or brunette? Why not get the best of both worlds with Bronde. The clue is in the name; Bronde is a colour technique that fuses brown and blonde to create a flattering, subdued colour result.

“Bronde means introducing a brunette tone into blonde hair. Either in the form of a lowlight, toner or glossing service to create a smoky, brunette driftwood effect in the hair whilst still allowing the blonde to shine through. Creates a brunette tone without making the overall colour appear dark. Soft and milky, latte tones.”

– Tom Bozier, Art Director

Ecaille For A Multidimensional Appeal

Ecaille also known as Tortoise Shell is the creative colour placement and marbling effect that has made its way from retro eyewear to grace the strands of our hair. Say goodbye to stark two-tone hair and hello to multidimensional colour placements with three or more varying hues to create a beautiful contrasting light effect.

“Colour trend that enhances the natural movement of hair. Works best on wavy or curly hair as it enhances the placements and pockets of wave movements”

– Elizabeth Shedwick, Head of Technical Varder

Platinum Colour Tones For All Seasons

Not a new trend, but definitely one that is here to stay. The trend has gained popularity with many celebrities, even attracting male celebrities such as Jared Leto to rock the icy-blonde makeover. Platinum blonde is a process of lightening and toning of the hair to create a translucent, clean white result.

Subtle Pastel Tones

The look that makes you stand out in the subtlest of ways as opposed to a stark toned colour. Whether your choice of pastel is to incorporate the rainbow hair tends, unicorn hair trend or even candy floss trend – this look is guaranteed to express your individuality.

“The new norm in hair colouring! The makeup for hair without damage! Highly recommended for blonde hair.”

– Elizabeth Shedwick, Head of Technical Varder

Soft And Vibrant Rose Gold Blorange

Orange tones made a debut on Instagram in 2016 as ‘Rose Gold Hair’ – highlighting warm peach tones and strawberry blonde hues. After a social media post by Georgia May Jagger went viral, the term ‘Blorange’ came into the mix, redefining the already prominent Rose Gold Hair trend. Blorange offers a colour between blonde & ginger with both soft and vibrant tones which flatters most skin tones. The best thing about this hair technique is that it can be easily achieved on light bases and is a great idea for those who want to spice up their blonde locks.

Whimsical Denim Grunge Palette

As its name suggests, Denim Hair pulls inspiration from the stone wash and indigo dyes of blue denim jeans. Using rich indigo tones that transition into a beautiful blue through the lengths and ends of the hair. Take it light and subdued or go all the way with deep indigo hues mirroring the night blue sky.

“A natural progression from shades of grey, creating a sort of whimsical grunge to the hair”

– Aaron Barker, Technical Director

Dip Dye For Making A Statement

A trend that doesn’t seem to be going anywhere as it is invented and reinvented with different tones and hues of colour. The dip dye effect is where the ends of the hair have the appearance of being dipped in a colour, with a defined transition between two colours. Not for the subtle as it is meant for making a statement and doesn’t involve a natural blend on the hair.

Hair Colour For Guys Adds Texture

Who said hair colouring is just for women? Whether it is to cover up greys, go platinum blonde or even infuse free hand pastel tones, hair colour for men is not to be snubbed at. With so many looks to choose from, express your signature that’s right for you.

“Colour for men adds the third dimension to their hair cut. Illumina & Colour Touch are great products to camouflage greys for shorter hair, and in longer hair I like to hand paint depth to create texture within their own natural base.”

– Aaron Barker, Technical Director
