KINTSUGI

Setting goals and working hard to achieve them is essential to how I like to live by
example. As a salon owner, my primary focus is to create an inspirational and
motivational atmosphere for my team and myself, striving to be ahead of the crowd
when it comes to education and the latest hair trends.

From pursuing a career in hairdressing at the age of 15, I educated myself through
the esteemed TONI&GUY Oxford Street Academy in London, and now with over 20
years experience, I have worked my way up through the education structure of
TONI&GUY International, to Artistic Director and National Educator as well as Label.M
Product Ambassador.

My husband and I bought the TONI&GUY Perth Central salon and following our major
renovation in 2017, we’ve become the Top Performing TONI&GUY Salon in Australia for
2017, with a team of twelve. A career achievement we are extremely proud of.
Working with TONI&GUY has provided many opportunities to represent them via
several competition platforms, shows and events as part of the Artistic Team,
additionally utilising my knowledge as a guest blogger for T&G, and winning WA/NT
Hairdresser of the Year (2013+2014).

Humbly, I’ve used my platform as a hairdresser to contribute to my local and the
wider community through being an ambassador for the Toni & Guy Pink Scissor
Campaign; I’m a marathon runner raising money for Breast Cancer Awareness; in
2017 I set up the Cutting Hair for the Homeless Initiative with Rauh for Hair Aid, and
I’ve started a ‘Ban the Bag’ campaign for Toni and Guy with the aim of T&G salons
being plastic bag free within the next year.

My passion is education and contributing to the industry across many levels; I love
teaching others and giving them confidence and exposing them to opportunities the
industry has given me. I am proud to undertake a promotion to the national T&G
Education Team for 2018.

‘Kintsugi’ represents many different facets of fashion, pop culture, and ancient
art techniques, combining to produce works that are fuelled with futurism,
dimension, and costume, yet with a distinct commercial feminine strength and
beauty.

‘Kintsugi’, (also known as golden joinery), is the Japanese art of repairing with
gold, treating breakage and repair as part of the history of each object,
celebrating this imperfect beauty, rather than disguising it.

The collection is bound together by the gold ‘thread’ in each image, which
references Kintsugi, paying homage to the beauty of each individual woman.
Working with the different golden fibres and metallic materials as a medium
allowed me to add in different elements and create a different dimension
within the hair.

Drawing inspiration from my love of Game of Thrones and the strength of the
warrior woman, there’s a tough yet ethereal vulnerability to each look.
These strong, beautiful warrior women may have been broken by battles or
the elements, yet the gold thread unites them and represents their survival,
eliciting a feeling that they are more beautiful for having been broken.

This theme is also highlighted by fashion influences from the 2018 Spring
Louis Vuitton Ready to Wear collection, in particular Nicolas Ghesquiere’s
nuanced blending of his signature sportswear with 18-century costuming.

This concept of costume and combining that into an urban wardrobe,
highlighted by intricate embroidery and delicate details in the embellishments,
allowed me to deliver a different dimension to the hair with additional
elements influenced by metals, feathers and fringing.
