Pastel Green On Hair

You don’t have to go too far to see pastel hair adorning a bouncing, balayaged blow dry these days. A look which was once reserved for fashionistas, natural roots blending in to rainbow pastels is now the new normal, and a trend that’s here to stay. Pastel palettes have been worn by everyone from Sienna Miller, Rihanna and Blake Lively to Kanye West and Helen Mirren, proving that age or gender holds no boundary!

As the trend evolves, we see particular shades, unusual combinations and artistic application taking center stage.

Pastel Pink On Hair

‘Rose Gold’ is often a popular shade due to its ability to suit any skin tone and its playful finish without the ‘in yer face’ feeling of its brighter cousins. This would be a great introduction to pastel shades if you’re just wanting to dip your toe! Warmer skin tones (yellow) would opt for a pinker shade, whereas cooler skin tones would choose a more golden hue. It’s currently having a moment on social media under the tag ‘blorange’, taken from the blood -orange fruit. Specifically, this shade would have a stronger crimson undertone, so ideally suiting cooler (blue) skin tones.

Nicole Richie's Bob Hair

Blue hair no longer has the grunge and punk connotations of previous eras and has now grown up! Blue tresses have been showcased on the editorial catwalks and colour chameleons Nicole Ritchie, Katy Perry, Kylie Jenner and Jared Leto. A new spin on the look is ‘denim hair’. Working varying shades of deeper blue through to more faded panels will give your hair the worn in feeling of denim and ensures your colour looks artistically created and not straight from the bottle at home.

Katy Perry's Purple Hair At The Grammys

Technology around colour products these days mean that you can experiment with longevity. Opting for a hue that drops out after simply one wash or one that will fade slowly over the weeks. But be aware, to achieve a pop of pastel you’ll generally need to work over a blonde base.

Kesha's Pastel Color Combinations

There’s a pastel shade out there for anyone, and as with fashion, there is no right or wrong.
