TONI&GUY’S EXTRAORDINARY NEW FLAGSHIP SALON ON PARK STREET
In early November TONI&GUY relocated its long-standing FLAGSHIP salon on Pitt Street to an exclusive new premises on the corner of Park Street and Elizabeth Street, Sydney .Over looking one of Sydney’s most popular living landmarks, Hyde Park. Peering down from the salon windows you get the feeling you are in a funky observatory as you look out onto to the busy city sidewalks and lush parkland.

Salon Owner and Art Director Stephen Parker opened TONI&GUY Balmain on Darling Street in 2004 after arriving in Sydney from the UK and working for TONI&GUY Pitt Street for several years. “Opening TONI&GUY in Balmain was a major achievement for me, with all the right staff in place in my existing salon and a solid reputation in the area I feel totally confident in my decision to open the new the Park Street salon.” commented Stephen.

The salon interior is very sophisticated and has been especially designed to combine the traditional modern TONI&GUY style with some unique and personalise features. The space is large and open with wooden floors finished in a stunning Japanese black; a glamorous designer feature light captures your attention as you enter the salon. Display areas made of glass look almost invisible, creating the illusion that the products are simply floating in the window, a very chic effect indeed!

TONI&GUY Australia New Season Collection Launch: ‘EXPRESSIONISM’
TONI&GUY Australia, Paddington, Monday 6th November 2006.

The launch of any collection is heralded with much anticipation, but as with all TONI&GUY’s new collection launches there is the additional element of celebration: of the talent, creativity and vision of this inspirational company.

The ‘Expressionism’ collection had its official London launch in October at the Alexandra Palace. Dubbed ‘Mainstage’, it involved a 100-foot catwalk, ten couture designs from Alexander McQueen, and was attended by 3000 TONI&GUY staff from around the world.

This exciting collection, Expressionism, was launched in Australia in early November at the TONI&GUY Paddington Academy in Sydney. TONI&GUY Australia’s top creative styling and technical teams were involved, some of whom were in London for the official launch.

TONI&GUY Australia’s Creative Technical Director Jane Stacey and Creative Artistic Director Sonia Lyon led a talented team of stylists and technicians, with help from special guest Bronwyn Illingworth, TONI&GUY’s Art Director based in New Zealand. The team recreated the amazing styles of Mainstage UK’s Expressionism, with the guidance of TONI&GUY Australia’s TONI&GUY Education Director and Managing Director Dennis Langford.

Sonia and Jane stage-managed the Australian launch of Expressionism, and were on hand during the evening to field questions about the new collection from TONI&GUY staff from around Australia, and invited guests.

Jane explains Expressionism as “the inspiration for this beautiful new collection are borne from the foundations of the minimalist artistic movement in the 1960s. Gallery artists of that period garnered their inspiration from street art, which was more accessible for the public.  This strong foundation of creative expression came full circle when high art returned to the streets, through catwalk session work.”

Expressionism is the International TONI&GUY collection, a concept created to encourage freedom and ‘expression’, suggesting samples of shapes, lengths and shades, left to be interpreted by the advanced stylist and technician.

This exciting new collection combines contrasting textures and translucent tones which sit alongside opaque shade like Peach-Blow, Maroon, Taupe and Denim Black, the shades complement fashion’s obsession with all things dark. Sectioning patterns are designed to create a soft focus feeling, incorporating a colour palette of surreal tones.

Teardrop Sections, Stacked Mop and Offset Lengths add a new perspective to advanced hairdressing.  Shape-shifter techniques of pillbox placements, dappling and cloud shapes create blurred edges and a perfectly surreal feeling.

The Expressionism collection comprises individual elements, self-expression, feeling and mood.  It’s what TONI&GUY know best: passing on the skills of creative and freehand application techniques, by award-winning, experienced educators.

Dennis Langford articulates the Expressionism collection thus: “Expressionism is inspiring and thought provoking, proving once again that TONI&GUY lead the way in innovation and hair trends. It allows the stylists and technician to customise every look to suit the individual. Expressionism is the perfect fusion between the distinctive style of TONI&GUY, innovative colour using Wella Professional Colour and the chic texturing of TONI&GUY label.m range.”

TONI&GUY’s ‘Expressionism’ is the strongest global collection of cut and colour techniques launched in recent years.  You’ll be exposed to Expressionism everywhere, from the catwalks to the streets, but if you’d like more information please see www.toniandguy.com.au.
