TONI&GUY Newtown is situated on the famous King Street. Newtown is known for its eclectic mix of alternative cultures, ethnicity, sexuality, lifestyles and of course shopping.
TONI&GUY Newtown’s unique vibe and style is well suited to the area offering a buzzing environment to create your look.
The terrace style building, which was built in 1894, was first transformed in 2003 with a complete fit out offering slick interiors with practical style. Then in 2007 the salon was extended onto the first floor doubling the size. The first floor is a specialist technical colour area with a more relaxed mood as you are away from the hustle of King Street.
The team at TONI&GUY Newtown are specialists in cutting and colouring and are involved more than ever in continual training and education and are in high demand for the expertise for photo shoots and fashion parades.
We can offer expert advice for all your hair needs. TONI&GUY Newtown are exclusive stockists of label.m, System Professional, GHD and use Wella.
Salon owner Lea-Ann Suthern and her team welcomes you to TONI&GUY Newtown.
Lea-Ann Suthern
Salon Owner, Artistic Director and Leading Educator
Lea-Ann first discovered her passion in her mother’s hair salon from the time she could hold a broom…”Mum worked in the coolest salon in Canberra in the 60’s…she worked for Mal Nugent at Kingston. I would have loved to work with them, the prestige of the hairdressers was quite different then.”
Starting her profession in 1992, Lea-Ann was awarded with the accolade of ‘Apprentice of the Year’ which kick started her career and she then knew that education and teaching was where her calling was.
Joining TONI&GUY in 1998, Lea-Ann soon progressed to Artistic Director and was involved in teaching at the academy as well as managing the salon. Her next stop was London and in 2000 she was working alongside TONI&GUY legends Gary and Kirsten France and was part of the Junior Artistic team while also being Assistant Manager of the Covent Garden salon…”London was a chance to refine all my skills as it was so busy. I learnt to do six things at once while keeping up the TONI&GUY ethos.”
Upon her return to Australia, Lea-Ann was offered the opportunity to open a franchise in Newtown which she gladly accepted. Opening in 2003, the salon has gone from strength to strength and is a destination for great hair.
Part of the TONI&GUY Australian Artistic Team, Lea-Ann is an inspiring educator which sees her travel the country and overseas representing the TONI&GUY brand.
Lea-Ann has had her work published in Vogue, Marie Claire, Harpers Bazaar, Ralph Aura, Oyster and New Woman. A regular on the session circuit creating looks for Gucci, Hermes, David Jones, Lisa Ho to name a few.
