Situated conveniently in The Junction, TONI&GUY have just opened their brand-new salon, set to impress locals with the latest trends and styles direct from fashion headquarters – the UK.
Salon owners Shelly Johnson (Art Director) and Jess Elliott (Senior Technician) have always dreamt of owning their own salon. “Growing up in Newcastle I have noticed a substantial change in he past 10 years, with an increased awareness in fashion, beauty, health and lifestyle and the extensive redevelopments in the area, we knew the time had come. We are delighted and thankful for the support we have received so far from other business owners in the local area and the Newcastle public,“ remarked Shelly. “ The Junction is a perfect location for the salon, surrounded by hip eateries, fashion outlets and entertainment venues all contributing to a very cosmopolitan experience.“
The salon interior has been especially designed, combining the traditional sleek and modern TONI&GUY style, with warm chocolate display areas and wooden floors boards, creating a warmth throughout. A private shampoo and treatment area with reclining lounge style chairs has been set up for those who want to unwind and be pampered with a relaxing head massage or deluxe treatment. However, if you need a little more stimulation a wide screen cinema TV has been installed which means you can sit back and be inspired by the latest hair trends, fashion catwalks and photo shoots all captured on our very TONI&GUY.TV, delivered direct from London,“ say’s salon owner and senior technician, Jess.
The salon has six employees, who are all responsible for the quality and experience of each clients visit. TONI&GUY's focus is on constant education in order to deliver the highest quality service. “Education is never compromised, each fortnight the team travels to our Academy in Paddington, Sydney to take part in our ‘Art Team Training Sessions’. Training covers all aspects of the industry from the latest techniques in cuts and colours and product knowledge to photo shoots and session styling for magazine and film. “
With 40 years of experience, over 400 salons in 35 countries, there is no doubt that TONI&GUY have established themselves as leaders in the industry. “The success of TONI&GUY has been in the ability to continue to grow whilst maintaining a personalised experience for our clients. Who is you mentor?
Leanne Falcon, my first employer at TONI&GUY, played a big role in my career, helping to inspire and motivate me to live my dream.
Which product could you not live with out?
I couldn’t live without labe.m soufflé, I have wild curly hair and soufflé controls it without weighing it down, it is also made up of avocado oil, Barbados cherry and olive oil so it nourishes my hair at the same time!! Amazing.

What product could you not live without?
Colour stay shampoo and conditioner, suitable for all hair types it prolongs the life of your colour and protects the hair from UV Rays, leaves your hair feeling soft and looking shiny.
Why did you become a hairdresser?
You can really be creative and being around creative people gives you so much inspiration. I have always enjoyed the personal interaction you have with clients and seeing them leave the salon looking fantastic and feeling great about them selves is very rewarding.

What are your strengths when it comes to salon work?
Due to TONI&GUY’s extensive training in communication and consultation, I feel confident that I can listen to the client and find out exactly what it is they are aiming to achieve, whether it be to maintain their current style, a new look or recommending the correct products and hair care advice.
Which products could you not live with out and why?
Hairspray!! The label.m range offers a fantastic hairspray it has a medium-strong hold that is flexible and light and never coats or lacquers the hair, Brilliant for every style!
Who is you mentor and why?
Dennis Langford (TONI&GUY Managing Director) is an amazing hairdresser; mentor a role model for anyone in our industry. He motivates and inspires me to follow my passion and if I work hard enough anything could happen!

Where do you gain your inspiration?
I like to look in current fashion and street Magazines from both Australian and overseas. Also from the people I work with, new collections which TONI&GUY release each year and every day people on the streets.
Which products can you not live without?
I really like the label.m Sea Salt Spray and Matt Paste, they give a great textured and lived in look to the hair without weighing it down. Popular products for guys.
What do you like about working for TONI&GUY?
The progressive education, it always pushes you to expand your creativity. They have such a thorough training system, I have been hairdressing for over 5 years, however before I started working in the salon I was required to pass a 6 week training programme held in the TONI&GUY Academy in Sydney. It ensures only that only the best hairdressers make it onto the salon floor.

What do love most about working in the salon?
We all work with such a professional and friendly attitude, which makes the clients feel comfortable and well looked after, everyone in the salon works as a team which makes it enjoyable to come to work everyday!
Who is your mentor?
Salon owners, Shelly Johnson and Jessica Elliott. It inspires me that two young ladies have worked as hard as they have to achieve not only their own business but also to be two of the best hairdressers I have ever met. I am so lucky to be working under these girls!
What do you like about TONI&GUY?
The training that I get at TONI&GUY is what I love most. We have training every Monday night for 2 hours, learning everything from fundamentals through to fashions and new collections. It is so important to keep developing your skills in order to be a great hairdresser!
What product could you not live without?
I could not live without dry shampoo, I have really short hair with a bit of length in my fringe and it sometimes gets oily during the day so dry shampoo being a weightless powder removes the oil and refreshes my style!
