KELLY WRIGHT

I first arrived in Australia in 1999, at the age of 22 for a three month holiday and I’m still here! I joined TONI&GUY in 1996 and trained originally at London College of Fashion, so I have now officially been hairdressing longer than not...

I knew from 7 years old I was going to be a hairdresser, when out of 23 grandchildren my Nan told me we needed a hairdresser in the family. From then it was my destiny and 16 years on I wouldn’t change it for the world.

When I arrived in oz I was going to be cool and “work in a bar”, since I had only ever done hairdressing and thought it would be a good change. I landed on a Friday night and by the following Thursday, Dennis Langford had me working in TONI&GUY Pitt Street. Since then, TONI&GUY Australia has become my family away from home.

When I arrived there were only five TONI&GUY salons in Australia, and there are now no less than 35, of which, Bondi Beach and along with business partner Kiri Fenton, Bondi Junction are my babies.

The opportunities I have had in Australia are beyond comprehension, if I had guessed at 22 where I would be in 10 years time, not even in my wildest dreams would I have imagined what has been possible.

As well as the business side, my main passion is educating, I am an educator
for TONI&GUY Australia which has me spending a lot of time at the flagship academy in Paddington teaching courses from beginners to advanced. I am also one of the key members of the Australian artistic team for TONI&GUY which keeps me constantly inspired.

The standards we have here in the hairdressing industry are so comparable with the rest of the world, we really have something to be proud of. I love going back to London to see my family and hang out with the guys at the TONI&GUY Academy, and love the fact that we are on the same page. Gone are the days when Australia is a year behind or even a season behind, we are right up there with the best of them. The only difference is we have the sunshine and the beach at the end of the road (and the finest collection of half naked surfer boys).

So that’s me in a nutshell, I have now made Bondi my home and don’t see myself returning to London for more than a holiday anytime soon.

CAYLEY NORMAN

I grew up in the sunny old city of York, England. Since I can remember I have been around hairdressing and basically lived in my mum’s salon sweeping up, even at the tender age of four. Dad said I should have always been on stage… sweeping it!

Passing up rollers and even cleaning the good old highlighting caps, if we can all remember those inventions, it seems like a life time ago, even though I was always in awe of what I saw, I only ever wanted to be a policewoman. Luckily at 15 my passion for hairdressing encouraged me to start an apprenticeship in 1996 in a small salon in the center of York.

I completed my training in 2 years and before I knew it my client base was extensive and seemed to be mainly technical, colour, perm and relaxing.
I even forgot I owned a pair of scissors which in the beginning were my pride and joy as I spent all year saving for them on an apprentice wage, ready for when I finished my training.

At 18 I moved to TONI&GUY Leeds, at which time I decided to specialize as a technician. I completed an intense Vardering programme in Manchester, and worked in Leeds for 4 amazing creative years, winning “Most creative salon technician” 3 years in a row.

In 2004 I came to Australia, I’m currently working at TONI&GUY Bondi Beach and am OFFICIALLY “Living The Dream". I have worked my way up to Head Technician, I’m also Salon Assistant Technical Trainer, Educator for TONI&GUY Australia and a key member of the TONI&GUY Artistic Team.

As a Technical Educator I teach courses from classic to advance, which sees me travelling all over Australia to places I would never think of going too (which I’m sure they do on purpose cause I love going to really aussie places). I also work very closely with Wella and was part of the team that launched the new Koleston perfect collection nationally. Educating others is a strong passion of mine, also being up on stage and sharing my knowledge and creativity with others (and not sweeping thanks dad!!) is one of the most satisfying accomplishments I have achieved.

SARA ELHAJ

I trained at TONI&GUY Guildford, in Surrey in the UK. I worked my way up to salon Art Director, where I took care of the salon training, competitions, seminars and art team training. Working in Guildford gave me a Iot of opportunities, while being there I won the L’Oreal Men’s image award 2007, and progressed to the Grand final of the L’Oreal Colour Trophy 2008. I also was chosen for the 2007 Breakthrough team, which taught me session skills, I assisted the art team for things such as Fashion Week, Mainstage, and Salon International.

I wanted to experience something new and work in another environment, being in Guildford for a while I felt I needed to move on to another salon to progress. I came to Australia in January 2009 and have really enjoyed meeting new people and working in a different salon experience.

SIOBHAN FRYER

Originally I’m from Cronulla but I have recently moved to the Eastern Suburbs to start my career in hairdressing. I accidentally fell into hairdressing when I was a hair model for the TONI&GUY team at Hair Expo this year. It was amazing, the atmosphere was buzzing and I decided there and then that it was my destiny to be a hairdresser.

I worked with a fabulous team at Bondi Beach and am very confident in the education at TONI&GUY and believe I will excel to the best of my ability in this industry. I’m also very grateful for the opportunity that I have been given.
